I’ve retired from making pictures for a living, had a 38 year career as a professional photographer. It was a great run, I made it through adult life without getting a real job.

The digital revolution and the transition from print to electronic media occurred over the course of my career. As did the transformation of the South Boston waterfront where two of my three studios were located. Looking back on it all, it was a remarkable time to be a photographer in Boston. I’m lucky to have lived it.

To everyone who trusted me with your projects, please know I’m grateful for the opportunities and the laughs we shared. And a big THANK YOU to those who helped me along the way, your efforts were appreciated if not fully acknowledged at the time.

Thinking about my influences and inspirations, there were many, some perhaps obvious. My grandfather was probably the first. The photo above is something of his I shot in the 20th century on 4x5 black & white film. He was an accomplished academic who gave a lot of speeches. I inherited his original notes, typewritten little pieces of paper that I’m guessing fit in his suit pocket unfolded. His signature ending phrase was always the same and handwritten:

”Good Luck and High Adventure!”

Indeed, Grandpa Ben!
